Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GHC and our co-host Global Sport Academy Group have decided to postpone the 2020 Firestarter Tournament for all three divisions, U15 AA, U18 AA and U18 AAA. This decision will be reviewed when Government of Alberta restrictions related to the COVID 19 pandemic are either lifted or reduced such that the holding of hockey tournaments is permitted. GHC and Global Sport Academy Group look forward to presenting Alberta’s Premier U18 AAA/AA and U15 AA Female Hockey Tournament as soon as the safety of our players, coaches, officials, staff and spectators can be assured.

About the Firestarter

Each fall, the Calgary Fire AAA/AA Hockey Program welcomes 650+ female hockey players and their fans to our city for our Annual Firestarter Tournament, Alberta’s Premier U18 AAA/AA and U15 AA Female Hockey Tournament.

The GHC Calgary Fire AAA/AA Female Program and its volunteer members created the Calgary Firestarter Tournament in 2016. A tournament of this size raises the profile of AAA/AA female hockey in Western Canada, and provides an opportunity for our athletes to diversify their competition pool. Its preseason timing also informs player selection for club teams.

Many of the athletes who compete in the Firestarter have committed to university or college teams in Canada and the United States. Our teams are a representation of the highest level of amateur female hockey in Western Canada.
