Girls Hockey Calgary Association (GHC) is pleased to announce that The City of Calgary has awarded newly available team facilities at Father David Bauer Arena to GHC effective September 1, 2019.

This award is the culmination of tireless efforts to obtain a “home” arena in Calgary by GHC’s past President, Jody Forbes, and its past Vice President of the Elite hockey division, Jamie Martin. GHC hopes to finalize a multi-year agreement with The City of Calgary over the coming days.

The facilities will be home to GHC’s Calgary Fire Midget AAA team beginning this hockey season, and include a dedicated team dressing room, training room, coaches office and associated ice time on the Olympic-size ice surface.

GHC is proud to provide female hockey athletes an opportunity to play on all-female teams. We are home to more than 40 Jr. Inferno community teams from Timbits to Midget, and five Calgary Fire elite teams, making us Alberta’s largest female hockey association and elite female hockey franchise. We are thrilled that our AAA athletes will no longer feel like visitors at home games — they now have a dedicated, personalized space to call “home.”

We invite our entire GHC family to celebrate this new tenancy with a pre-game opening ceremony on Saturday, October 12, 2019, when the Calgary Fire AAA host the Lloydminster PWM Steelers AAA for their first home game of the season. More details will follow.

Congratulations to all those who have been involved in this process, and to the players who will enjoy this space this season and for years to come.

Sincerely,

J.A. MacDonald
President
