Father David Bauer Arena is named after Hockey Hall of Famer Father David William Bauer, one of the forefathers of Canada’s national teams and historical hockey pioneer. FDB was partially used in the 1988 Winter Olympics, and was previously a training and competition venue for Hockey Canada. Some of Canada’s greatest female hockey players have called FDB home in their pursuits of hockey’s highest honours. It is now home to the Calgary Fire Midget AAA of the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) as well as the University of Calgary Hockey Teams. Our team facilities include a dedicated team dressing room, training room, coaches’ office and associated ice time on the Olympic-size ice surface and seating for more than 1750 people.

The announcer for the game will be the Voice of the Calgary Fire, Stuart Hill.

Celebrating 30 Years of Growth

The 2019/20 season will be the 30th anniversary of GHC’s first all-female team, the PeeWee Cougars. The team consisted of girls aged 12 to 16, and was coached by Shannon Miller and Suzanne Jackett. The Cougars played 20 games that first season under the Blackfoot Minor Hockey Association. Despite no wins in the seeding round, they had many highlights and lots of heart. It was the first big move in rebuilding organized minor hockey for girls in Calgary at the time, with the ultimate goal of developing an all-female league: Girls Hockey Calgary Association (GHC).

The Great Prairie Bottle Harvest

The Calgary Fire Miget AAA are taking part in The Great Prairie Bottle Harvest! Refundables will be gratefully accepted between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Father David Bauer & Norma Bush Arenas (west side). The awesome Bowness Bottle Depot will have their truck on site. Event Link.

Parking & Accessibility

FDB arena is located at 2424 University Dr NW in the same area as the McMahon Stadium and Foothills stadium, close to the University of Calgary. Parking is available on the north side of the facility off of 24th Ave NW and on the SW side of the arena off of University Dr. NW.
