Beginning 2021-22, Hockey Calgary’s U13 AA Division will be operated by Calgary’s Elite “Quadrant” associations (Calgary Buffalo Hockey Association, Northwest Calgary Athletic Association, Calgary Northstars Hockey Association or Calgary Royals Athletic Association). Each association will host 3 evenly-balanced teams (12 in total). More information:
Can female hockey players try out for Hockey Calgary’s Elite “Quadrant” U13 AA Division?
Yes, absolutely! Female players in the Calgary Region (Zone 9) are entitled to try-out for a U13 AA team in their designated Elite “Quadrant” association. (Check out Hockey Calgary’s Boundary Maps if you are unsure of your Quadrant association.)
All players who intend to try out for a U13 AA team must sign-up for BOTH their designated Quad association and a Community association at the time of registration. (For the purpose of registration, Hockey Calgary considers a player’s Community hockey association their primary association. Players are officially carded to Quad association after they are drafted to a Quad team.)

Can female players choose GHC as their designated Community association?

Yes! Female players have the choice to register with Girls Hockey Calgary Association (GHC). Players registering with GHC will see an option on the GHC registration form to indicate that you are trying out for a Quadrant team.

Please note: Registering with GHC and/or your Community hockey association and selecting the option that you are trying out for a Quadrant team DOES NOT mean that you are registered with your Quadrant club. You must also register with them directly if you intend to try-out!

Does Calgary have a U13 Female AA division?

While there is no U13 Female AA division in Alberta, GHC has updated our U13 Female Development Pathway to include two U13 Female AA teams to compete in Hockey Calgary’s Community co-ed divisions. GHC U13 Female AA program themes include:

  • “Elite” skill development
  • Advanced hockey strategy and tactics
  • High-performance strength and conditioning
  • Position-specific training and coaching .
  • Individual assessments and development planning
  • Formal relationship with Calgary Fure U15 AA program and coaches

Players who are released from Elite “Quadrant” U13 AA try-outs and who have chosen GHC as their designated Community association will proceed with our Community Evaluation process. Players will be assigned to the appropriate evaluation grouping for their skill group based on previous team placement and/or comparison to a similarly-skilled player. Based on the tentative dates of the Quadrant hockey try-out process, players who are released to GHC will have the opportunity to attend a sufficient number of evaluation sessions to ensure fair and appropriate team placement.

If a player is released from U13 AA Quadrant try-outs at the very end of the process (mid September), this player will attend a “Final Look” evaluation session to determine their appropriate team placement.

A “Final Look” Evaluation Session for players released from the final phase of U13 AA try-outs is currently scheduled for:

  • September 12, 2021: 7:15-8:15 PM @ ECTAS BLUE
