GHC 2021 Season Update (January 11, 2021)
Dear GHC families,
Girls Hockey Calgary wishes all our members and their families a safe and healthy 2021. As you know, provincial health measures — including restrictions on team sports — have been extended until January 21, 2021. We remain on pause as the coming weeks will likely determine the direction for this year’s hockey season.
Many of our members have been receiving social media notices from GHC regarding off-ice training sessions led by some of Canada’s top female hockey players. We hope that your daughters are taking advantage of and enjoying these sessions. GHC would like to send a big shout-out to Samm Holmes-Domagala, Christine O’Shaughnessy and Kyle Wanvig for their untiring efforts to launch these programs for our athletes. Upcoming sessions and video archives are available at https://www.girlshockeycalgary.com/virtual-training/
Hockey Calgary stated in its letter to members on January 8, 2021 that it is exploring the option of extending the minor hockey season, however there is no finalized plan at this time. Hockey Calgary also stated that they are working with Hockey Alberta and arena operators to determine a date where we can no longer proceed. As of today, there are still too many uncertainties to define a refund plan to our membership, but we will continue to monitor our expenses and your experience closely. When our season comes to a close, we are committed to completing a season review to determine a potential refund that is fair and considerate.
For now, we are surrounded with a great deal of uncertainty regarding our return to play. Regardless of any developments in the coming weeks, the welfare and interests of our players will always be at the heart of our efforts. Thank you for your continued support of GHC.
Sincerely,
John A. MacDonald
President
